How we build

Three commitments that decide most of our arguments for us.

Build for the phone people own

Not the newest flagship. A mid-range Android on a data bundle that has to last the week. If it isn't fast and light there, it doesn't ship.

Run our own stack

Our servers, our database, our models. Owning the infrastructure keeps our costs predictable, and that's what lets us keep products affordable for students.

Ship early, then listen

We'd rather put a rough version in front of ten real students this month than a polished one in front of nobody next year. Their complaints are the roadmap.

Why we started

I started Froxlyn because the software students here use every day was built for somewhere else. It assumes fast internet, a recent phone, and a card to pay with. Plenty of good tools simply don't survive contact with how we actually live.

So we build differently. We run our own servers to keep costs down. We test on the phones our users carry, not the ones we'd like them to carry. And we start with one product, used by real people, before we start talking about the next five.

We're small and we're early. If you're a student, a teacher, an engineer who wants in, or someone who backs companies at this stage — I read everything that comes to my inbox.

Here's the short version of what we think is true, and where we currently are.

The market is young and growing

Ghana and West Africa have an enormous population of students and a thin layer of software built specifically for them. We're building where the competition isn't.

Our cost base is unusual

We self-host our infrastructure and run our own models rather than paying per call. That gives us margin at price points most competitors can't reach.

One product, real users, then the next

NSMQ Prep Hub is live. The same engine — content, practice, mastery — extends to other subjects and other exams without rebuilding it.
